Hermione's Shortie Socks

I've just realised that I never showed you the second pair of socks I've knit for Daniel's girlfriend for Christmas. In fact, I must have popped them straight in the gift drawer as I had no photos of them and hadn't even set up a project page on Ravelry for them.

They were knit from the yarn I had left over from Eleanor's Sugar Frost Socks and I used an old favourite when it came to patterns, Hermione's Everyday Socks by Erica Lueder.

It's good to be able to get a couple of pairs of socks out of one ball of yarn, knitting shortie socks enables me to do this.

All the socks I've knit for Christmas are waiting to be wrapped up, I've got some lovely gift boxes for them. I hope everyone likes what they open on Christmas morning.

  1. So pretty! Are you all going to be together on Christmas morning? This year there'll be four of us. Jx

    1. I think the colours in this yarn are really pretty. There'll be five of us here on Christmas morning, Mick and I, Daniel and his girlfriend and Eleanor. My mum and dad will join us for dinner if they're up to it, we haven't made any firm plans just yet.

  2. The socks look great, Jo. They remind me of Refreshers. I wonder if you can still buy Refreshers? I'll need to look next time I'm in the sweetie aisle!

    1. They do look like the colours in Refreshers. I haven't seen those for years, I'll be looking too now.

    1. I hope so. I'm just hoping that they all fit as I haven't had feet here to measure as I knit.

  4. When I saw the title I thought they were for Hermione of Harry Potty fame or that Daniel's girlfriend was named Hermione. Pretty socks.

    1. The pattern is inspired by Hermione of Harry Potter fame.
'Hermione, as described in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter Series, is a rather smart and practical heroine. While she can dress up with the best of them, these socks remind me of something she might wear while practicing charms or transfiguration or reading up on Arithromancy in the Gryffindor Common Room.'

    1. I suppose they're more spring socks than winter ones, but they'll brighten up the dull days.

  7. They are great & just the ticket when it's a bit warmer, but you still want cushioning under your feet. Clever girl & hope everyone loves their socks. Take care.

  11. I'm sure everyone will LOVE them! Shortie socks are a great idea - I really should have done that for my moms socks, but was already a good way down the leg before I even thought of that.

    1. It's a good way to get two pairs of socks out of a ball of yarn, as well as being quicker to knit. They're good to wear with trainers too.

  12. Oh, they're lovely. You should take a photograph of you all in your woolly socks on Christmas morning. X

  15. You've done well with your socks Jo, I hope everyone loves them too. My cheeky son has put on his Christmas 2017 list - A pair of knitted socks for 2018. He has no confidence in me. I'm still knitting a pair for my husband but I have paused (quite a bit) to finish my blanket, then to do some crochet angels as presents. Yes he has a point but... Cx

    1. That made me laugh. It is easy to get sidelined though, isn't it? There's so many lovely things to knit that I find it hard to resist casting on something new and putting what I'm working on down for a while, I've had to be quite disciplined whilst knitting my Christmas socks.

    1. It's a lovely pattern, one of my favourites. I can imagine how hard it would be to knit in that heat, perhaps save the knitting for when it cools down.
