Petunia Dursley's Double Eyelet Shortie Socks

You may remember the Pink Flamingo Socks that I knit for Daniel's girlfriend, well I had quite a bit of yarn left over so I thought I'd try and get another pair of socks out of it, and I managed it. It helped that I'd used a contrasting yarn for the cuffs, heels and toes, it meant that there was more of the main colour left than there would have been if I'd knit the full socks in just one colour.

I used the Petunia Dursley's Double Eyelet Socks pattern by Erica Lueder, another pattern inspired by a Harry Potter character, which is a free pattern on Ravelry, but I've made a shortie sock rather than knit the whole leg. Again, I've used a contrasting colour but this time I've just used it for the heels and toes, the cuff has been knit using the main colour. I've used West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4 Ply in the Pink Flamingo colourway and Candyfloss as a contrast.

This is a really easy lace pattern and makes such a pretty pair of socks. I used the Fish Lips Kiss Heel pattern by Sox Therapist, it's only the second time I've knit a heel using this pattern but it's surprisingly easy once you know what you're doing.

These will be an extra pair of socks for Eleanor for Christmas but I wouldn't mind knitting this pattern again, this time as a full sock, for myself.

I've already cast on another pair of socks for, you've guessed it, another Christmas present. It's going to be socks all round this year.

  3. I really mst get out of the rut and knit some patterned socks, these are so pretty and I just stick to the plain one's. I keep all of my ends of sock wool and a while ago made Tom some out of all the odds and ends for bed, lol. Good job he's the kind of person who is easy to please ha ha.

    1. Plain socks are lovely with a patterned yarn but I do love a little lace every now and then. It's a good idea making socks out of all the ends.

    1. Socks aren't as hard as some people imagine, just so long as you can knit, and perhaps purl, you can make a pair of socks.

  8. They are just lovely. This year I'm knitting everyone cowls - I'm such a slow sock knitter that I don't think I could make them all socks unless I did shorties for everyone (although I do have a pair of socks on the needles for my daughter so she may get those, as she's been asking for socks for a long time - I could save the cowl for her birthday which is shortly thereafter).

    1. I love hand made gifts, both giving them and receiving them. I'm sure everyone will be thrilled with their cowls and they'll receive them at just the right time when the weather is cold enough to wear them.

  12. I think they are lovely socks. Did I understand correctly that you've used 2 different patterns to make these socks Jo? The patterned top fronts and the heel. Amazing. I really must get mine finished. Cathy x

    1. I used the Petunia Dursley Socks pattern but instead of following the pattern given for the heel I used the Fish Lips Kiss Heel pattern by Sox Therapist. It's a different heel construction so that there's no need to pick up stitches.
